4th Annual Stan Dean Ovation Awards Gala is a glittering affair with champagne and delicious delectable treats supplied by the finest restaurants and caterers in Natchez.    Entertainment features the casts of the season’s hits with a sneak preview of the 60th Season.  Awards are presented in numerous categories for actors, actresses, set design, plays and volunteerism.  An entertaining evening and the NLT Board of Directors annual report to the membership.  Don’t miss it!

 

NATCHEZ LITTLE THEATRE ANNOUNCES NOMINATIONS

FOR 4TH ANNUAL STAN DEAN OVATION AWARDS

 Natchez Little Theatre’s 4th Annual Stan Dean Ovation Awards, celebrating the best of the 59th Season and the Volunteers that made it all happen, will be celebrated at the Awards Gala on Saturday evening, July 14, 2007, at 6 p.m. at the Natchez Little Theatre at 319 Linton Avenue at Maple Street in Natchez, Mississippi.  The Gala is a fund-raiser for Natchez Little Theatre, a non-profit organization and Mississippi’s oldest community theatre.  Natchez Little Theatre has been entertaining since 1932.

 The Stan Dean Ovation Awards (a play on the words standing ovation) is an evening of celebration.  Delicious hors ‘doeuvres donated by local eateries and caters, champagne, a silent auction, live entertainment celebrating the hits of the 59th Season and a sneak preview of the upcoming Diamond Jubilee 60th Season and the awards presentation, make for a memorable evening of fun, food and music.  Rusty Jenkins, of Natchez, will again serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the black-tie event.  The Awards Committee, chaired by Gina Buckley, of Natchez, and Lynn Mann, of Ferriday, LA, will be assisted by Amy Carter and Courtney Taylor, both of Natchez.

 Entertainment will feature Darlene McCune, Rudy Timm, Landon Henry, Giovanna Little, Casey Gilbert, Jodie Wright, the Cast of “Into the Woods,” Layne Taylor, Lynn Mann, Nicole Ballard, Chanda Douglas, Mignon Reid and Curt Smith.  Twenty four awards will be presented starting at 7 p.m. in the Natchez Little Theatre Auditorium.  The nominees for Best Play are “The Bad Seed,” “Deathtrap,” “Southern Exposure,” and “Twain by the Tale.”  The nominees for Best Musical are “A Natchez Christmas Carol,” “Big River,” “Chicago,” and “The Hobbit.”

 Best Director of a Play nominees are Tommy Jackson for “Twain by the Tale,” Lynn Mann for “Deathtrap,” Layne Taylor for “The Bad Seed,” and Layne Taylor for “Southern Exposure.”  Nominees for Best Director of a Musical are Layne Taylor and Darlene McCune for “A Natchez Christmas Carol,” Tommy Jackson and Darlene McCune for “Big River,” Tommy Jackson for “Chicago,” and Tommy Jackson and Darlene McCune for “The Hobbit.” The nominees for Best Sets/Scenic Design are “A Natchez Christmas Carol,” scenic design by Layne Taylor, Leon Hollins and Lynn Mann; “The Bad Seed,” scenic design by Layne Taylor and Lynn Mann; “Deathtrap,” scenic design by Lynn Mann; and “Southern Exposure,” scenic design by Lynn Mann.

 In the Best Acting categories, the nominees for Best Actor in a Play are Stacey Carden in “Deathtrap,” Landon Henry in “Southern Exposure,” Rusty Jenkins in “Twain by the Tale,” and Layne Taylor in “Deathtrap.”  Best Actress in a Play nominations are Melinda Ballard in “The Bad Seed,” Saxon Ballard in “The Bad Seed,” Florence Hargis in “Deathtrap,” and Lynn Mann in “Southern Exposure.”  Best Actor in a Musical nominees are Chase Caldwell in “Big River,” Ric Luss in “Big River,” Layne Taylor in “Chicago,” and Rudy Timm in “The Hobbit.”  Best Actress in a Musical nominees are Melinda Ballard and Ryan Dixon Richardson in “Chicago.”

 In the Supporting Actor categories, the nominees for Best Supporting Actor in a Play are John Ballard in “The Bad Seed,” Casey Gilbert in “The Bad Seed,” Landon Henry in “The Bad Seed,” and Rusty Jenkins in “Southern Exposure.”  The nominees for Best Supporting Actress in a Play are Bennie Boone in “Southern Exposure,” Chanda Douglas in “Southern Exposure,” Darlene McCune in “The Bad Seed,” and Dottie Novak in “Deathtrap.”  The Best Supporting Actor in a Musical nominees are Casey Gilbert in “Chicago,” Landon Henry in “Big River,” Tommy Jackson in “Big River,” and Layne Taylor in “Big River.”  The nominees for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical are Gina Buckley in “Chicago,” Gabrielle Richardson in “The Hobbit,” Aurora Simms in “A Natchez Christmas Carol,” Suzette Tiggs-Simms in “A Natchez Christmas Carol,” and Marylee Williams in “The Hobbit.”

The awards for Best Cameo performance by an Actor are for big performances in small roles.  The nominees for Best Cameo Actor in a Play are Stacey Carden in “The Bad Seed,” Bill Furlow in “Southern Exposure,” John Harter in “The Bad Seed,” and Tommy Jackson in “The Bad Seed.”    For Best Cameo Actress in a Play, the nominees are Elaine Harter for “The Bad Seed,” Elaine Harter for “Southern Exposure,” Lynn Mann for “The Bad Seed,” and Brittany McCalip for “Southern Exposure.”  Nominees for Best Cameo Actor in a Musical are Mike Gemmell in “Chicago,” Jim Gibson in “Big River,” Casey Gilbert in “A Natchez Christmas Carol,” Casey Gilbert in “Big River,” and Ron Hux in “Chicago.”  The Best Cameo Actress in a Musical nominees are Amy Carter in “Chicago,” Bethani Goodman in “Big River,” Darlene McCune in “Chicago,” and Laurie Williams in “Big River.”

Natchez Little Theatre is proud of the numerous acting debuts that take place at NLT.  The nominees for Best Debut by an Actor are Shawn Chambers in “A Natchez Christmas Carol,” Bill Furlow in “Southern Exposure,” Ron Hux in “Chicago,” and Mark Simms in “A Natchez Christmas Carol.”  Best Debut by an Actress nominees are Elaine Harter in “The Bad Seed,” Gloria Neames in “Twain by the Tale,” Aurora Simms in “A Natchez Christmas Carol,” and Suzette Tiggs-Simms in “A Natchez Christmas Carol.”

 Natchez Little Theatre’s outstanding youth programs have given many local area youth an opportunity to display the talents and gives three youth awards.  The nominees for Best Youth Actor are Chase Caldwell in “Big River,” Landon Henry in “The Bad Seed,” Landon Henry in “Big River,” and Rudy Timm in “The Hobbit.”  Best Youth Actress nominees are Nicole Ballard in “The Hobbit,” Saxon Ballard in “The Bad Seed,” Chanda Douglas in “Southern Exposure,” and Giovanna Little in “A Natchez Christmas Carol.”  Each spring Natchez Little Theatre rewards the youth volunteer of year a $500 college scholarship and the nominees are Nicole Ballard, Chanda Douglas, Landon Henry, and Dwight Williams.

 Natchez Little Theatre is a volunteer community theatre.  Its success comes from the countless hours and tireless efforts of many to create the outstanding community theatre that NLT is.  The nominees for Volunteer of the Year are Casey Gilbert, Lynn Mann, Darlene McCune, and Deanne Tanksley.  Many of NLT’s volunteers have been a part of this theatre organization for decades, dedicating their time, talent and lives to the success of NLT.  The nominees for Life-Time Achievement are Bennie Boone, Gay Guercio, Tommy Jackson and Tootsie Yelverton.

The winners of all these awards are determined by the membership of Natchez Little Theatre who have attended all of the Season’s productions.  The nominees were selected from all the participants of NLT’s productions throughout the season and narrowed down to the nominees listed above by the NLT Awards Committee and Board of Directors.  And the winners are…  Well you’ll have to come to the Stan Dean Ovation Awards Gala on July 14, to find out.  All tickets are $10 and 59th Season Grand Benefactors and Sponsors may attend for free.  Remember this is a fundraiser, so bring your checkbook and come prepared to bid on some exciting silent auction items and join Natchez Little Theatre as it celebrates it Diamond Jubilee 60th Season with a retrospective of plays and musicals from NLT’s first six decades.  Reservations for the Gala may be made by calling 601/442-2233, toll free at 1/877-440-2233, by email at natchez@bellsouth.net or go on-line to www.natchezlittletheatre.org.
